About Me
I’m Josh, a strength coach based in Liverpool and a dad to three energetic boys, originally from Perth in Western Australia.
Before moving into coaching, I spent over a decade working in policing, where I learned how to work with people from all walks of life, build trust quickly, and communicate clearly under pressure. Those same skills now shape the way I coach.
Strength training has been a consistent part of my life for years. It’s given me confidence, resilience, and a level of physical capability that carries over into everyday life. After experiencing that firsthand, coaching became a natural step.
I’ve worked with people at all stages, from those completely new to lifting through to those wanting more structure and direction. What matters most is not where you start, but having a clear plan and someone to guide you through it.
At Buloke Barbell Club, the focus is simple. Teach people how to train properly, get them strong, and build confidence that carries beyond the gym.
Barbell training can feel intimidating at first. My role is to remove that barrier. Break things down, teach the fundamentals, and help you understand not just what to do, but why you’re doing it.
Over time, that understanding builds confidence. You move better, lift more, and start to see what you’re capable of.
Coaching isn’t just about writing programmes. It’s about building trust, creating structure, and helping people show up consistently without feeling like training has to take over their life.
Some of the most rewarding moments in coaching are the small ones. When something clicks. When a lift that once felt out of reach becomes routine. When someone starts to carry themselves differently, both inside and outside the gym.
That’s what this is about.
